Argonauts at the Placer County STEM Expo

Here is one of our consistent 82 point lifts, which gained us many wins that day.

Some of the Argonauts (Andrew, Faith and Sam) recently helped out with a FIRST FTC Demonstration at the County’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Expo. We had a “mini-tournament” with 5 other teams, so that expo participants could get an idea of what goes on at a tournament. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to drive and compete with Jason again, even though the real season is over.

Even though we had a one on two match ( our partner stopped working), and we matched against Antipodes and another working team, Jason proved his skills by winning without help. Go Jason!!!

Our robot performed quite well during the qualifying rounds, earning us the 1st Captain title. We were the only team to lose just one match, even when going against such teams as Pheonxtrix and Antipodes, the first and second place Inspire award winners at State. After choosing the Antipodes and Team Titans as our alliance partners, we had best-out-of-five finals rounds. Sadly, after the first final round, an opposing robot who was playing defensive pushed and stripped Jason’s wrist. We had our two partners play for our team while we worked on fixing it, but sadly that match was lost for us against Phoenxtrix. We then called a timeout and we were barely able to finish fixing Jason before the next match. Luckily we won that match!

Here we are with Antipodes, our chosen alliance partners. This is one of the final matches that we won. Jason has a crate lift and the Antipodes have the bowling ball.

We ended up as Captain of the Winning Alliance, which made us feel pretty good, even though it wasn’t total consolation for our less-than-perfect robot rounds at State. This STEM Expo was really fun, and hopefully taught participants more about FIRST!

ARGONAUTS FOREVER!

Champions!!! Sadly, this is the first time that we have ever been the captain of the winning alliance, even with Jason the amazing!!!
